Invictus

Invictus - By William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

When I read this poem, it reinforces the control we have. We control how we deal with situations in our life. We control whether we accept defeat or pursue success. Many have referred to this poem as a point of inspiration, most notably Nelson Mandela.

By believing in yourself, you will persevere through trying moments in your journey to success. You have to believe you will make it through. Your positive attitude will enable you to make it through.  Simply put it is up to you.

Remember:
YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR FATE: YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR SOUL.

  1. I LOVE this poem. In addition to the Bible, this poem has been a constant in my life. My mother used to recite this throughout the house to us.
